The protein encoded by this gene is a T cell-derived cytokine that shares sequence similarity with IL17. This cytokine was reported to stimulate the release of TNF alpha (TNF) and IL1 beta (IL1B) from a monocytic cell line. Immunohistochemical analysis of several nerve tissues indicated that this cytokine is primarily localized to neuronal cell bodies. IL-17B is expressed in several peripheral tissues and immune tissues, namely in adult pancreas, small intestine, and stomach. IL17B (Interleukin 17B) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with IL17B include leiomyoma and charcot-marie-tooth disease. Among its related pathways are TGF-Beta Pathway and Akt Signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include cytokine activity. An important paralog of this gene is IL17D.
