The Durham-Based Bioanalytical Lab Plans to Add Over 21,000 Square Feet to Existing Facilities to Further Increase Efficiencies and Services Capacity
SEPTEMBER 18, 2018—Durham, NC—BioAgilytix, a leading provider of contract bioanalytical testing services with specialization in large molecule bioanalysis, has announced a new expansion plan for its USA headquarters located in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. The company will be developing out an additional 21,173 square foot building directly adjacent to its existing facility – nearly half of which will be dedicated laboratory space – to bring the campus’ total footprint to over 69,000 square feet. The construction will begin before the end of 2018 with expected completion by April 2019. This new project comes only one year after a previous expansion to the Durham location was completed, in which nearly 21,000 square feet were added to more than double the laboratory’s cell culture facility and further accommodate larger studies.
The additional space will grow the capacity for all bioanalytical services BioAgilytix offers, including those involving cell-based assays, biomarkers, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity testing in support of large molecule biotherapeutics as well as cell and gene therapy. “Across the board, industry demand for bioanalysis supporting large molecule drug development is on the rise,” said Jim Datin, President and Chief Executive Officer of BioAgilytix. “Sponsors know our reputation for scientific excellence and service quality, and more and more are turning to our team’s expertise to support their complex studies – whether it is existing customers bringing us additional large molecule projects or new customers bringing us their challenging assays, which may have failed elsewhere. The expansion will ensure we can continue to meet sponsor demands, efficiently and effectively, to deliver the timely and robust results they need.”
The facility expansion will not only grow BioAgilytix’s services capacity, but also accommodate the company’s rapidly growing team. To date in 2018, BioAgilytix has hired 70 new employees in the USA alone, and an additional 24 in Europe, bringing its total headcount to over 200 employees in the USA and over 260 worldwide. “Additional space in and out of the lab will allow us to continue to hire exceptional talent at our USA headquarters, and enable us to further leverage our capacity and resources in Durham to effectively support global studies,” added Datin. “The skill and dedication of our people has enabled us to continue to uphold our industry-leading level of customer satisfaction.”
