Beta-NGF (nerve growth factor) is a secreted dimeric neurotrophin that plays a critical role in the development of sympathetic and some sensory neurons in the peripheral nervous system. It can also act in the central nervous system as a trophic factor for basal forebrain cholinergic neurons. Beta-NGF additionally promotes mast cell and basophil proliferation and activation and induces the differentiation of B cells.
